Race, Bias & Equity in Prenatal Care

06/14/2019 @ 8:00 am - 9:30 am EDT

“Medicine continues to advance on many fronts, yet basic health care fails hundreds of women a year who die during or after pregnancy, especially women of color.” (NPR, May 10, 2019)

The CDC’s recent report on pregnancy-related deaths laid out clearly what we’ve seen reported across the news: Too many women in our country are dying, or suffering near-miss incidents, due to pregnancy and it doesn’t need to happen. Join the Jennifer Bush-Lawson Foundation, along with public health experts and medical practitioners, to discuss how we got here, the changes that need to be made—in our communities, our schools, our systems—to move toward better health and equity, and what part you can play.

Opening remarks by Aletha Maybank, MD, MPH, the American Medical Association’s Chief Health Equity Officer.
