ARLINGTON, VA, MAY 15, 2019 – The Jennifer Bush-Lawson Foundation (JB-LF) is pleased to announce that Dr. Colleen Borelli has joined its board of directors, effective May 11, 2019, and that Myrna Alphonse Newman and Elyssa Geschwind have joined the advisory board. Their additions, along with the recent additions of Kelly Garrity and Elizabeth Ingram, represent a strategic expansion of JB-LF’s board and its capabilities.

Dr. Borelli is a board certified OB/GYN who completed her undergraduate studies at Georgetown and then earned a Masters in Public Health from The Johns Hopkins University. She completed medical school and residency at The George Washington University, where she was named Resident Physician of the Year upon graduation. Her special interests include obstetrics, menopause, adolescent gynecology and minimally invasive GYN surgery. She has recently been listed as a “Top Doctor” in both Northern Virginia Magazine and Washingtonian. In her free time, she volunteers at the Arlington Free Clinic. She also enjoys traveling, cooking, reading and spending time with her husband and two children.

Newman, MA, NCC, is a trained NCS (Newborn Care Specialist)/Postpartum Doula and therapeutic nanny, with a particular interest in doula support systems and race disparities in postpartum care. Geschwind, a graduate of Brandeis University (BA) and Temple Law School (JD), has professional experience as an attorney and in nonprofit fundraising and development and has been working to alleviate gender-based disparities throughout her career.

“Colleen is the first medical practitioner to serve on our board of directors, and I’m excited that we can turn to her knowledge and experience as we expand the foundation’s programmatic work. I’m also very pleased that Myrna and Elyssa will add their areas of expertise to our advisory board, sharing their thoughts and ideas with JB-LF. We are well-positioned for continued growth so that we can serve more moms and babies in need,” said Neal Lawson, founder and chair of JB-LF.

ARLINGTON, VA, FEBRUARY 28, 2019 – The Jennifer Bush-Lawson Foundation (JB-LF) announces that Kelly Garrity and Elizabeth Ingram have joined its board of directors, effective February 27, 2019. Their addition is part of a planned expansion of JB-LF’s board, and the foundation expects to add an additional board member later this year.

Garrity is the Senior Director of Membership Services and Development at the National Health Council, where she has worked since 2008. She is also a founding member, fundraising chair and legislative co-chair of the Virginia chapter of the Star Legacy Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing pregnancy loss and neonatal death and improving care for families who experience such tragedies.

“I’m thrilled to be able to combine my nonprofit professional experience and personal experience with a high-risk pregnancy to help JB-LF achieve its mission,” says Kelly Garrity.

Ingram, a preschool teacher at Westover Baptist, has volunteered with JB-LF since its launch, dedicating her time to serve as a co-chair and the race director of the annual 5K & Family Fun Day. This new role will allow her to become even more involved in JB-LF’s activities in the community.

“The Jennifer Bush-Lawson Foundation is in an exciting phase of growth, with a new event series on maternal and infant health as well as a newly launched Prize for Prenatal Innovation. The expertise that our new board members bring will help us achieve our plans for growth so that we can improve the lives of even more economically vulnerable moms and babies,” said Neal Lawson, founder and chair of JB-LF.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ARLINGTON, VA, AUGUST 7, 2017 Registration is now open for the 3rd annual Jennifer Bush-Lawson Foundation 5K & Family Fun Day.

This year’s 5K and Family Fun Day — scheduled for Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 9:00am at the Knights of Columbus, 5115 Little Falls Road, Arlington, VA — will include a challenging, certified 5K course open to adults and youth, as well as a Family Fun Day festival complete with a kids’ dash, music, moon bounces, rock climbing walls, obstacles course, delicious food trucks, beer garden, corn hole tournament, face painting, balloon animals and more.

New for 2017, child care is available during the 5K, provided by EverWonder Camps. (Available for potty-trained kids, ages 3 and up. For our younger friends, strollers are welcome on the 5K course in the final wave.)

Proceeds from this charitable event will help provide access to high-quality pediatric and maternal healthcare services for economically vulnerable expectant mothers and their children through our primary beneficiaries: Virginia Hospital Center and Arlington Pediatric Center. Projects funded with proceeds from last year’s event include:

  • Twelve months of wellness care for 240 newborn babies at the Arlington Pediatric Center, making JB-LF the largest donor for newborn care at APC.
  • A telemedicine program for maternal health launched in partnership with Virginia Hospital Center that will help expectant mothers with high-risk pregnancies access medical care through the convenience of their smartphone or computer. These virtual appointments will provide close prenatal monitoring to augment in-person clinical visits. JB-LF’s donations support new nursing and care coordination staff in the Outpatient Clinic to manage the maternal health telemedicine program, expand Clinic hours, and provide care to expectant mothers in need.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available; companies or individuals interested in sponsoring the 5K & Family Fun Day can reach out to sponsor@jb-lf.org.
