Impact

JBLF serves as a cornerstone of support within our community, extending essential resources to vulnerable mothers, including guidance on accessing healthcare and supplying crucial items such as pack-n-plays and car seats. Over the last 10 year’s JBLF has supported more than 3,000 families through our efforts in areas such as:

Prenatal care access:

  • In 2017 and 2018 the telemedicine program served more than 300 low-income and uninsured women with high-risk pregnancies at Virginia Hospital Center’s Outpatient Clinic. Among the many results, these moms saw a 61% reduction in NICU admissions and 25% reduction in C-section rates.
  • In 2019 and 2020, we aided in the expansion of the telemedicine program to include all pregnant moms at Virginia Hospital Center’s Outpatient Clinic.
  • In 2021 and 2022, the OB Connect program was piloted and expanded at the VHC Outpatient Clinic. Rather than visiting the office for every appointment, OB Connect patients schedule some remote appointments, called Continuing Care Visits, via secure video. In addition, the program ensures that all enrolled patients have one care nurse that is with them the entirety of their pregnancy.

Prenatal monitoring: Through projects like the telemedicine pilot program, OB Connect, the purchase of fetal dopplers, and the purchase of blood pressure cuffs, JB-LF helps low-income mothers better monitor their pregnancies and manage high-risk conditions such as hypertension and gestational diabetes.

Access to well-child medical care: In 2016 and 2017, JBLF funded more than 200 newborn well-child visits (0-12 months) at the Arlington Pediatric Center for low-income and uninsured families.

Safe travels: Since 2020, JBLF has ensured that moms can safely leave the hospital by providing more than 50 car seats.

Nursery Project: JB-LF launched it’s Nursery Project amid the pandemic with a goal of providing families in need with essential newborn supplies, support safe sleep, provide car seats, and encourage healthy breastfeeding.

HOW WE DO IT

Our supporters and sponsors are one of the most important enablers to the achievement of this impact. Our annual 5K & Family Carnival, now in it’s 10th year, commits to raising funds for high-quality pre- and post-natal care for low-income expectant women and their babies. We rely on partnerships and collaborations with health providers in the community, education, and thought-leader events to ensure we deliver on our mission.
