Grantmaking Activities
Too many moms aren’t able to access the kind of care they want — and deserve — for themselves and their babies. In Arlington County, VA, 1 in 3 births in the county lacked care in the first trimester — a number that is worse than the state average.
The Jennifer Bush-Lawson works to change these numbers by funding innovative programs that increase access to care. This includes:
- Funding a DC wide research project to develop and implement strategies that reduce obstacles to screening for stress, depression, and anxiety in pregnancy.
- Funding a telemedicine pilot for high-risk OB patients to enable them to access remote care that meets their needs and the results were outstanding. They included a 25% reduction in c-section rates, 61% reduction in NICU admissions, 65% reduction in ER visits, and 56% reduction in hospital admissions.
- Funding an OB connect program for OB Connect Nurses, at-home care kits for patients, the OB Connect educational app, and the printing and translation of program materials to Spanish for increased accessibility. Additionally, the donation allows patients of VHC’s Outpatient Clinic to access this brand-new program free of charge.
