The Jennifer Bush-Lawson Foundation ("JB-LF," "we," "us") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Northern Virginia. This policy explains what information we collect through our website, jb-lf.org, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've tried to keep it short and in plain language.
When you use the volunteer form on our Get Involved page, we collect your first and last name, email address, phone number (optional), the areas you're interested in helping with, your availability, and anything you choose to share in the notes field. The form is processed by our website host, Netlify, and delivered to our team.
When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your first name and email address. Our mailing list is managed by Mailchimp.
Online donations are processed by Zeffy, a fundraising platform for nonprofits, using the donation form embedded on our site. Zeffy collects the information needed to complete your gift, including your name, contact details and payment information. Zeffy shares your name, contact details and the details of your gift with us so we can thank you and provide a receipt. JB-LF never sees or stores your full card number.
Race registration takes place on Zippy Reg, a separate registration website. Zippy Reg collects the information needed to register participants and shares registration details with us so we can run the event.
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message.
Like nearly every website, our host (Netlify) automatically records basic technical information when pages are requested — such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the date and time. This is used to deliver the site, keep it secure and troubleshoot problems. We don't use it to identify you or build a profile of you.
Our site loads its fonts from Google Fonts. When your browser requests those fonts, Google receives your IP address as part of that request. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.
We do not use Google Analytics or any other analytics service, and we do not use advertising networks, retargeting, social media pixels or similar tracking tools.
Our website does not set its own cookies. The donation form on our Get Involved page is provided by Zeffy, which may use cookies and similar technologies of its own — for example, to process payments and help prevent fraud. Those are controlled by Zeffy, not JB-LF, and are described in Zeffy's Privacy Policy. You can set your browser to block or delete cookies, though that may affect how the donation form works.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only in these limited ways:
We may thank sponsors and donors publicly — for example on our Sponsors page or at events. If you'd prefer to be anonymous, just let us know and we'll honor that.
Our site links to other websites, including our registration provider, event partners, sponsors and social media pages. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and we encourage you to review them.
Our website is served over a secure, encrypted connection (HTTPS), and we use reasonable measures to protect the information you share with us. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and limit access to those who need it.
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here, or as required by law — for example, donation records we must retain for tax purposes.
Our website is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through this site. Registration for our Kids' Fun Run is completed by a parent or guardian through our registration provider. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy as our website or practices change. When we do, we'll post the new version here and update the effective date at the top of the page.
